, there's a popular television show that's been out for a while that gives fashion makeovers to unsuspecting, "style-challenged" individuals nominated by their friends and family. Rita and Alyssa love watching it and occasionally I get hooked. That's what happened last night.
The person is offered a substantial amount of money to go on a shopping spree, but they must follow some fashion rules given to them by the stylists who host the program. Before they go shopping, the first thing they must do is to try on each piece of clothing in their closet and evaluate it in front of a 360-degree mirror. Then, they must throw away anything, and everything, that is deemed unbefitting. It's often an uncomfortable process, but in the end, the transformation is astounding. The individuals love their new looks and amaze their loved ones when they return home!
If you think about it, our spiritual "makeover" is a lot like this in many ways. We are chosen and invited to experience a transformation from the old to the new. We are invited to partake of His spiritual blessings; however, there are some rules we have to follow, and we certainly need to be willing to submit everything to Him. Of course, we have to look at ourselves in light of our 360-degree mirror, the Word of God, and get rid of anything that isn't befitting.
Do you need a spiritual makeover today? When you open your spiritual closet, what do you find? Do you have items that are worn out, unbefitting or just plain ugly? If we go to our mirror, the Word of God, we see that we just don't look good wearing bitterness, unforgiveness, anger or jealousy. First Peter 2:1 also tells us what not to wear: envy, deceit, hypocrisy, slander and malice. But in Colossians 3:12, we are told what to wear -- it's our text for this morning.
Today, remember, God has a wonderful plan for your life. He wants to transform you into His image. He makes all things new, and He makes all things beautiful. Submitting to Him and letting go of the old isn't always easy, but it is always worth it. Trust that He is at work in your life doing exceedingly abundantly above what you could ever imagine. Receive His everlasting love today as you cloth yourself with Him.
A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY
Father today I want to submit to you and stop wearing my old ways of thinking. Help me to change today into the new image you have for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
