Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Words: Pleasant or Poisonous?

Words: Pleasant or Poisonous?
Today's Devotional Reading: Prov. 16-18; Rom. 12
May 31, 2010

 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and bringing healing to the bones."  (Proverbs 16:24)

TODAY'S WORD

Have you ever heard someone say, "Now don't pass this on, but did you hear . . .?" When we hear someone say that we always think, "Then why are you passing it on to us?" I'm sure they don't think that sharing the latest juicy tidbit is going to hurt anyone.

But the truth is it can be extremely hurtful. It can ruin the relationship between business partners, close friends, and even between a husband and a wife. The Bible says that a gossiping tongue is "a restless evil and full of deadly poison." It can literally destroy a person's life.

But when we choose to use our words to say good things about people, even when they have made mistakes, we can influence their lives for the better. We can bring healing to the lives of hurting people when we choose to encourage and uplift them instead of tearing them down.

So if you know something bad about somebody, let me encourage you to keep it to yourself. And if someone tries to share "the latest news" about somebody else, politely stop them and encourage them to pray for that person. We must all learn to walk in love. When you show mercy to someone who is experiencing a difficult time in their life, God will show mercy to you and you'll live that abundant, prosperous life that He promises to those who faithfully serve Him.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

It is hurtful and I know it. Please give me the strength of character to show mercy to others by not spreading or delighting in their bad news. And I pray that others will do the same for me. In Jesus' name - Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Choose Your Relationships with Care

Choose Your Relationships with Care
Today's Devotional Reading: Prov 13-15; Rom. 11
May 30, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"When you walk with wise men, you will become wise, but a companion of fools will be destroyed." (Proverbs 13:20)

TODAY'S WORD

The quality of life is often determined by the quality of our relationships. Do you know that you will become like the people you associate with? If you constantly spend your time around lazy and undisciplined people, then before long, you're going to be lazy and undisciplined. But on the other hand, if you associate with successful people, then you're going to be successful. If you spend your time with people of vision, who are going places in life, you will be inspired to go further than you would on your own.

Take time to examine your friendships. Ask yourself, do I want to be like this person? Do I like their qualities? Do they inspire me to reach for new heights? As you choose to be around wise people, you will become wise too, and walk in the abundant life God has for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

God, I will choose my friends wisely. Open my eyes to the changes I need to make and give me the courage to distance myself from people that are dragging me down. Thank you for blessing me with wonderful Christian friends-may I be a blessing to them this day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - Find Rest

Find Rest
Today's Devotional Reading: Prov. 7-9; Rom 9.
May 28, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29).

TODAY'S WORD

Sometimes the pressures of life can cause unnecessary stress. So many people these days lose sleep worrying about things or people in their lives. I know I've been there. How about you? But God wants us to live a life of rest and peace. When Jesus walked on this earth, He took time for Himself. He got away from the crowds. He spent time with the Father. He found rest. He was gentle and humble in heart. Do you ever notice that when you are stressed out or worrying about something, you're less tolerant of the people around you? Last week I found this in my own life. A younger staff member felt it was time for me to stop...I couldn't see it. Everyone else could. Because of some friends who noticed what was going on I stopped last Thursday night and Friday (all day!!!) and slept great on Friday night. Wow, what a difference!

You're more likely to say something you don't really mean when you are stressed out. You're more likely to react in ways that are not of God. But God wants you to cast your cares on Him so that you can live with a gentle and humble attitude toward others. When you learn to release your burdens and follow the example that Jesus gave, you will find rest for your soul. You will be rejuvenated and refreshed. You will find peace in your heart, and you will move forward in the abundant life God has for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, today I choose to cast my cares on You. Teach me, Holy Spirit, to have a gentle and humble attitude. Help me find rest for my soul so that I can love others the way You love me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Observe to Do

Observe to Do
Today's Devotional Reading: 1 Ki. 10,11; 2 Chr. 9; Rom. 6
May 25, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success" (Joshua 1:8).

TODAY'S WORD

Did you know that when you speak the Word of God, it activates power in your life? In fact, this verse says do not let it depart from your mouth. In other words, keep speaking and confessing the Word of God-no matter what your circumstances seem like. When you keep God's Word in your mind, heart and mouth, it empowers you to obey all the Lord commands. Do you need strength today to overcome temptation? Do you need to be empowered to walk in love? Get the Word of God in your heart and declare what the Word of God says about your situation. Declare that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Declare that you have God's grace for all things. And notice what this verse says will happen when you are walking in obedience to God's Word: The key to having abundance and success in every area of your life is found in the Word of God. As you continue to speak the Word of God, you will be empowered in every area of your life, and you will live the life of victory the Lord has in store!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word which gives me strength. Fill me with Your power so that I can obey Your Word. I bless You today. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - Keep Asking

Keep Asking
Today's Devotional Reading: 1 Ki. 9; 2 Chr. 8; Ps. 136; Rom. 5
May 24, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened" (Matthew 7:8).

TODAY'S WORD

Is there something you are believing God for? Does it seem like it's taking a long time to come to pass? Be encouraged today! The Bible says that through faith and patience you will inherit the promise. You can trust that God's Word is true. Submit your prayers to the Lord, and keep an attitude of faith and expectancy. Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking on the door, and it will be opened to you. It may seem like it's taking a long time, but know this: God is working behind the scenes on your behalf. He is orchestrating things in your favor. He is perfecting whatever concerns you. Don't give up! Start thanking God for His faithfulness in your life. As you stay faithful in your prayers and thanksgiving, the Lord will move mightily on your behalf. He'll take you places that you've never dreamed, and you will live the life of victory He has in store for you!.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in heaven, thank You for giving me a diligent spirit. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Give me strength to stand until I see Your promises fulfilled in my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Walk in the Ways of Your Heart

Walk in the Ways of Your Heart
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Chr. 6,7; Ps. 135; Rom. 4
May 23, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"...Follow the ways of your heart..." (Ecclesiastes 11:9).

TODAY'S WORD

When you become born again, you receive a new spirit-God's Spirit on the inside of you. The Bible often calls this your heart. If you look at the word "heart", you'll see the word "ear" in the middle. The ear that you hear with is in the center of your heart. Your heart is where the Lord speaks to you. It's easy for the cares of this world to become like loud noise that drowns out the still, small inner voice. But if you'll set aside time every day to be with the Lord and acknowledge Him in everything you do, you will hear Him more clearly, and you will have confidence to walk in the ways of your heart. God wants to give you the desires of your heart, but it's only when you submit your heart fully to Him. Is there anything that you are holding back from the Lord today? Release it to Him. You can trust Him to lead your heart down a good path. You can trust Him to lead you down a path of victory in every area of your life.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, help me to hear Your voice clearly. I surrender every area of my heart to You today and ask that You remove anything that displeases You. Thank You for leading me on a good path for my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!
Eric & Rita

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Give Thought to Your Ways

Give Thought to Your Ways
Today's Devotional Reading:1 Ki 6; 2 Chr. 3; Ps. 97 Rom. 1
May 22, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps" (Proverbs 14:15).

TODAY'S WORD

Since the fire at Eastside I have been so busy that I've really not slept well in weeks. When I woke up at 9:00 I could hardly believe it -- I really slept! I also realized I didn't have a devotional done for this morning (so it's a little late). As I reached my desk here in my home office, I knew that there are still so many decision that have to be made with our church, hotel, ministry center, etc. -- and this Scripture became a life-line. Because of all the stress these last few weeks I hadn't been "giving thought to my steps." I had been in a place of reacting to each crisis that came my way. So the verse this morning caused me to stop and "give thought."

Do you consider yourself to be prudent or wise? The Bible says that one of the characteristics of a prudent person is to give thought to their ways. So many people today just act, or re-act, based on their emotions or circumstances. They let the world around them determine how they should feel or what they should do. They believe everything they hear in the news. When the economy is up, they are up. When the economy is down, they are down. Don't let that be you today! Give thought to your ways. Submit every decision to the Lord in prayer and allow Him to direct you from inside your heart. Don't believe everything you hear. Let the Lord guide your steps. As you take time to meditate before the Lord and submit your plans to Him, Proverbs says that your ways will be established. You will find supernatural peace that passes understanding, and you will live in success all the days of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness to me. Thank You for guiding and directing my steps. Help me each day to give thought to my ways and follow the good plan You have for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - With God

With God
Today's Devotional Reading:1 Ki 6; 2 Chr. 3; Ps. 97; Rom. 1
May 20, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God" (Mark 10:27).

TODAY'S WORD

With God all things are possible! Now that's a very broad statement. But, it doesn't mean you can just do anything you want. You have to get with God first. In order to get with God, or align yourself with Him, you have to obey His Word. You have to submit yourself to Him and His plan for your life. You must turn your back on your old life and your old way of doing things. When you are in agreement with God and His Word, then all things will be possible. When you make your thoughts agreeable to His Word, than your plans will be established and you will succeed! Make whatever changes are necessary in your life today so that you can align yourself with God. Don't hang around people that will try to drag you down. Guard what you watch on TV and what you listen to. Be determined everyday to spend time in prayer and studying the Word. The Bible promises that as you draw near to God, He will draw near to you. As you are in agreement with God, all things will be possible for you, and you will live the life of victory He has planned for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, I want everything You have in store for me. Today I choose to align myself with You. Show me if there is anything in my life that is displeasing to You so that I can walk with You all of my days. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Put on your "World Filter"

Put on Your "World Filter"
Today's Devotional Reading: 1 Ki. 4,5; 2 Chr. 2; Ps. 101; 2 Th. 3
May 19, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"I will set no evil before my eyes." (Psalm 101:3)

TODAY'S WORD

Did you know that what you think in your mind determines the direction and quality of your life? The Bible encourages you to think on things that are pure, wholesome, and of a good report (Phil. 4:8). In order to think on the right things, it is important to filter what you watch, read, and listen to. One trick of the enemy is to slowly deceive you into lowering your standards. Don't let the enemy have a single opportunity to pull you down by watching or partaking in things that are questionable.

Remember you are a temple of the Holy Spirit. As you fill your thoughts with God's Word, you'll reflect it in every area of life.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

God, I confess that there are inappropriate TV shows, movies, and books that tempt me. Help me to replace these with things that are uplifting and wholesome. When I focus on Your promises of peace, joy, safety, deliverance, and provision, I become whole in Your love. Thank you for a future and a hope that is only found through Jesus Christ. In Jesus' name - Amen.

We sure love you!

Chosen to Be Holy

Chosen to Be Holy
Today's Devotional Reading:1 Chr. 25-27; 1 Th. 4
May 15, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight" (Ephesians 1:4).

TODAY'S WORD

Did you know that God had a plan for you before the foundation of the earth? He created you to be holy and blameless in His sight. Why did He do that? He chose you to be His ambassador, or representative, on the earth. God created you to reflect His glory. He created you to reflect His character, His righteousness, His holiness. Think about that for a moment. Part of your purpose on this earth is to be a representative for the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Let that sink in deeply on the inside of you. Knowing that should make you want to walk a little differently. It should make you want to talk differently. That should make you think a little more carefully about where you go and what you choose to do with your time. Are you representing God's holiness today? Remember, what God's called you to do, He's equipped you to do. If there are things in your life that aren't holy, God wants to empower you to overcome those things. Receive His strength and might today so that you can walk in holiness and live the abundant life He has for you.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing me today. I ask You to search my heart and remove anything that is displeasing in Your sight. I accept Your holiness today. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!
Eric & Rita

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - He Directs Your Steps

He Directs Your Steps
Today's Devotional Reading:1 Chr. 22-24; 1 Th. 3
May 14, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps" (Proverbs 16:9).

TODAY'S WORD

What are you doing to bring your dreams to pass? Are you getting prepared? Do you have clear direction? Are you taking steps of faith? Success is intentional. You may not know what steps to take right now, but God has a good plan for your life. If you'll do your part to seek Him and begin to make plans to succeed, God will guide you. He will direct your steps. You don't have to vaguely go through life. God wants to show you His plan. He wants to pour out His blessing on you and see you living a life of victory. Decide today to make plans to succeed. Write down your goals. Make time to evaluate where you are in life. Evaluate your finances, your career, your relationships. Don't go another week without having a plan for your future. Evaluate how you're spending your time and money. If you'll go beyond dreaming and start making plans to succeed, God promises He's going to direct your steps. He will lead you down the path of His favor. He'll lead you into increase. He'll lead you into promotion, and you're going to see your dreams come to pass and walk in success in every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for guiding and directing my steps. Help me to see clearly the plan You have for me today and every day. I submit every area of my life to You and trust that You are working behind the scenes for my good. I bless Your name today. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita -- Forget What Lies Behind

Forget What Lies Behind
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam 24; 1 Ch. 21; Ps. 30 1 Th. 2
May 13, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"This one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind I press forward to what lies ahead" (Philippians 3:13).

TODAY'S WORD

Are you determined to forget what lies behind? I know many people don't fully understand what it means to forget the past. They wonder, "How can I forget something that's happened to me?" But one definition of the word forget means to disregard intentionally, or to overlook. You have to intentionally disregard your past so that it doesn't keep you from moving forward. That means the good and the bad. Sometimes our past victories keep us from rising higher as much as past failures. If we don't let go of the old, we'll never be able to embrace the new. It doesn't matter what's happened in your history, it's time to forget what lies behind. Make the choice today to press forward. Trust that God has a better future in store for you. Trust that He's working behind the scenes on your behalf. As you forget what lies behind and press forward, you will see the abundant life the Lord has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in Heaven, I choose to forget the past today. I don't want anything to hold me back from the future You have prepared for me. I choose forgiveness and ask that You help me, by Your Spirit, to press forward in every area of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - Worship Brings Power

Worship Brings Power
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam 21-23; 1 Th. 1
May 12, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"But now bring me a minstrel. And while the minstrel played, the hand and power of the Lord came upon Elisha" (2 Kings 3:15).

TODAY'S WORD

The Bible says that God inhabits the praises of His people. When you worship the Lord, His presence will manifest wherever you are. It doesn't matter if you are at home, in your car or at work, God will inhabit your praises. And where God is, there is tremendous power available! The enemy cannot stand in the presence of our Mighty God! All we need is in Him!

Last night, I shared with our Eastside Church family, that not only has our church building burned down, but due to circumstances out of our control, our denomination accepted an offer to buy the hotel in which our congregation worshiped. This news is a devastating blow and so many people are hurting because it feels like we've lost our home. But a church is more than a building -- it is a community of people and the presence and power of our God.

What do you need power for today? Do you need God's healing power in you body? Worship Him. Do you need God's restoration power in your relationships? Worship Him. Do you need His delivering power from a particular situation? Worship Him. Do you need a new home? Worship Him? As you worship Him, you will see your perspective begin to change. The things that used to bother you will no longer bother you. Old habits and addictions will automatically break off of you. Things in your life will begin to change when you live a life of worship. Start right now by worshiping the Lord out of your heart. All throughout the day, sing songs to Him and declare His goodness. As you do, you'll experience the life of victory He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in Heaven, I worship You today. You are the good and faithful God. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for accepting me. Thank You for working in my life today. I bless You today. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - Cover the Earth

Cover the Earth!
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam. 19,20; Ps 55; Mt. 28
May 11, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)

TODAY'S WORD

Today's scripture is the call of God on the life of every believer. In Matthew 28, Jesus commissions all of us to take His life-changing, encouraging message of hope and salvation to the nations of the world.

We have good news for you today: Through gifts and service to a church or ministries like ours you are fulfilling the Great Commission. Hundreds accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior in church. It's where marriages are renewed and families are strengthened.

We pray that you continue to cover the earth with the glory of God. Continue to wake up each day with great anticipation of how God will use you to touch the lives of your family and the people in your work place, school, and neighborhood.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

God, I will be an instrument of Your peace. I want to cover the earth with Your message of hope and I will do that through my church and through missions and ministry. When I pray and when I serve, remind me to think locally and globally! In Jesus' name, Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Do All That is In Your Heart

Do All That is in Your Heart
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam 17; Ps. 71; Mt. 26
May 9, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Then Nathan said to David, Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you." (I Chronicles 17:2).

TODAY'S WORD

What is in your heart today? What are the dreams and desires deep on the inside of you? Maybe you want to start a business, or ministry, or go back to school. Whatever is in your heart, ask the Lord to confirm it to you. God leads us by desires, but we have to first submit our desires to Him. Sometimes we have to allow Him to change our desires, but know that He is always out for your good.

This morning, I have an excitement in my heart and a huge desire. It is our first service since the fire in the church and our family will meet today in two services for worship at a new facility. I wonder in my heart who will come, who will survive, who will dare to dream again, who has come out of the blaze? Will Eastside, the church I pastor do all that is in their heart? God has given us so much and now we have fresh opportunities in front of us.

It says in the book of Psalms that God gives us the desires of our heart. That means He places desires within us then brings them to pass so that we can live a fulfilled life here on earth. I believe David did this very thing. He was known as a man after God's own heart. He submitted His heart to the Lord, and then Nathan came along and said, "Yes. Do what is in your heart. God is with you." Whatever is in your heart today, submit it to the Lord. Trust that He is out for your good and working behind the scenes on your behalf. As you put your faith and trust in Him, He will guide you in the life of victory He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, today I submit my dreams and desire to You. I trust that You are out for my good, and I desire only Your plan for my life. Confirm the plans You have for me so that I can walk in Your ways. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - The Beginning of Wisdom

The Beginning of Wisdom
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam 15,16; Ps. 32; Mt. 25
May 8, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"The reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom" (Psalm 111:10).

TODAY'S WORD

Do you need more wisdom in your life today? The Bible says that the reverent fear and worship of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That word, fear, in this instance, doesn't mean "to be afraid"; it means to have honor and respect. It means that we revere Him because He is God. Wisdom begins when you honor God. When you truly respect and worship Him out of a grateful heart, then Wisdom will operate in your life. I just finished a meeting with a young staff member who told me he had been spending a lot of time in God's Word (one day about 7 hours). As he shared, I could see God in his life and a power beyond his age. He is starting to see were real wisdom comes from.

One simple definition of wisdom is applied knowledge. It doesn't matter if you have all the knowledge, facts, and figures in the world, or if you are a high school drop out. Honoring and worshiping God is what makes you wise. Start today and begin to declare His goodness and faithfulness in your life. That's worship. Declare who He is with a humble heart of faith. Declare that He is your Provider, your Healer, your Redeemer. When you focus on your God instead of focusing on your problems, you are honoring Him. As you honor Him, Wisdom will flow through you, and you'll be empowered to live the life of victory He has in store for you!!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father in Heaven, I choose today to honor and respect You as my God. Thank You for filling me with Your Wisdom today so that I can live in victory the way You intend. Help me make wise choices and honor You all the days of my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - Friend of God

Friend of God
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam. 13,14; Mtt. 24
May 7, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God's friend" (James 2:23).

TODAY'S WORD

The All-Knowing, All-Powerful, Creator of the universe wants to be your friend today. He wants to walk with you and talk with you and share life with you. That's why He created you-first and foremost-for fellowship. It's as simple as opening your heart of faith to Him. If you have faith in God today, then just like Abraham, you are God's friend. And the Bible says that God is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. That means He is faithful. He will never leave you. He will never forsake you. He is with you always. He is mindful of you-that means He is always thinking of you. What an honor and privilege it is to be called God's friend! Let that sink down into your heart today. The next time the enemy tries to tell you that you are alone in this world, or that no one else understands what you are going through, just say out loud, "I am a friend of God." With God as your friend, He'll walk forward with you down the path of victory He has prepared for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my friend today. Thank You for loving me and for being faithful to me. Help me to understand Your friendship today so that I can be a better friend to those around me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - He Will Do Great Things

He Will Do Great Things
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam. 11,12; Ps. 51; Mt. 23
May 6, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things" (Joel 2:21).

TODAY'S WORD

God wants to do great things in your life! Notice this verse starts out by saying "fear not." Fear is a barrier to the promises of God. The Bible says that whatever does not come from faith is sin, or missing the mark. Don't ever let fear be a factor in the choices you make in life. If you make choices because you are afraid of something, that fear will block the blessing of the Lord in that area. Overcome fear by meditating on the promises of God's love and goodness. Perfect love casts out all fear. When you understand the love of God, you have nothing to fear. You know the Lord will do great things! Let that sink down into your spirit today. Meditate on this verse and declare it out loud every day. As you study God's Word, your faith will grow and fear will be gone from your life. You'll know his love, and you will experience His goodness in every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for goodness and faithfulness. Show me Your perfect love so that I may know You. I choose to rejoice in You and trust that You will do great things in my life! In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotions from Pastor Eric & Rita - Make the Right Plans

Make the Right Plans
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam 10; 1 Chr 20; Ps 20; Mt. 22
May 5, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed" (Psalm 20:4, NIV)

TODAY'S WORD

The Bible tells us that true faith has actions with it. A lot of times people say they believe one way, but with their actions, they're doing just the opposite. We have to understand that faith will work in either direction. I know some people make plans to get the flu. They talk about it and say, "Every year I get the flu." Or, "It's going to be bad this year." They expect it and a few months later, they've got it. Their faith worked. They believed, they expected, they made plans, and they got it. But instead of making plans for the worst, why don't you make plans for the best. Why don't you make plans for the Word of God to come to pass in your life? The scripture says, "No weapon formed against us is going to prosper." "A thousand may fall at my side, ten thousand at my right hand; but it will not come near my dwelling."

Today, make plans according to the Word of God. As you make right plans, you'll see right things come to pass in your life. You'll rise up higher and enjoy the blessings God has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

"Father God, I confess that I need You today. Search my heart. Help me see any area where my faith is working in the wrong direction. I desire to make plans in agreement with You so that I can partake of the good things You have in store for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - New Places

New Places
Today's Devotional Reading: 2 Sam. 7; 1 Chr. 17; Ps. 2; Mt. 20
May 3, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"...you have not passed this way before" (Joshua 3:4)

TODAY'S WORD

It was last week on Monday night that Eastside Foursquare experienced a devastating fire that took our building away for awhile. I had no idea that morning, when I sent out the devotionals for the week, that one week latter our Church family would be looking for "a new place."

This morning I read this passage and I realized that God desires to take all of us into new places in our lives. He wants to take you to deeper places in your walk with Him, and He wants to take you into higher places of blessing in your life. Are you ready to go to places that you've never been before? So many people today get stuck in a rut because they don't want to get out of their comfort zone. They want to stay with what they know because it's comfortable. But in order for you to reach your full potential, you have to be willing to step out into the unknown. You won't ever walk on water until you step out of the boat! We all have areas we can rise higher in. Open your heart today and be ready to step out into the unknown. Trust that the Lord will guide and order your every step. Begin to expect that the unexpected is on the way. Be ready to step out into new places. As you approach your day with faith and expectancy, you will move forward in the abundant life He has for you!

I am confident for you as I'm confident for our church. Lets be willing to go to a new place!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me increase in every area of my life. Thank You for taking me to new places. I expect that You are working behind the scenes in my life, and I open my heart to all You have for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Fix Your Eyes

Fix Your Eyes
Today's Devotional Reading: 1 Chr 16; Ps. 106; Mt. 19
May 2, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith..." (Hebrews 12:2).

TODAY'S WORD

Are your eyes fixed on Jesus today? It's so easy to let the distractions of the world and the cares of everyday life change your focus. And whatever you fix your eyes on, you open your spirit to. You can choose to fix your eyes on Jesus no matter what distractions of life are going on around you. You see, when you fix your eyes on Jesus, you are opening yourself to the Healer. You are opening yourself to the Deliverer. You are opening yourself to the Prince of Peace, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Provider, the Redeemer, the Strong Tower of refuge. What do you need in your life today? Peace? Fix your eyes on Jesus. Do you need healing? Fix your eyes on Jesus. Do you need a safe retreat? Fix your eyes on Jesus. Now you may have to turn off other things that you've been watching so that you can fix your eyes on Him. But remember, He is your source of life and the Author and Perfecter of your faith. Fix your eyes on Him and allow Him to work in your life so that you can experience the victory He has in store for you! !

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, today I choose to tune out the negative voices of the world so that I can fix my eyes on You. I acknowledge that You are my source and strength for every good thing in life. I open myself to You today. In Jesus' Name

Daily Devotion from Pastor Eric & Rita - Light Will Come

Light Will Come
Today's Devotional Reading: 1 Chr. 14,15; Ps. 132; Mt. 18
May 1, 2010

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

"Light arises in the darkness for the upright..." (Psalm 112:4).

TODAY'S WORD

Is there any area of your life that needs light today? Maybe you're in a seemingly dark situation, or maybe you need some insight into a decision you have to make. Maybe you need the light of understanding into a particular situation. Whatever is going on in your life right now, God's Word promises that light will arise. He promises to illuminate every area of your life. The Bible tells us in the book of Psalms that God's Word is a lamp to your feet and light to your path. You can turn the light on, so to speak, by studying and meditating on the Word of God. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart and shine the truth of God's Word throughout your being. As you meditate on the Word of God, you will see that light arise in your life. Your path will be clear, and you will move forward into the abundant life the Lord has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, I ask that Your light shine brightly in my life today. Help me, Holy Spirit, to walk in the light so that I can be pleasing to the Lord in every way. Thank You for Your faithfulness to me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

We sure love you!
