By reading the scripture above each day you will read the Old Testament through in one year and the New Testament through twice in a year. This will change your life. Start Today!

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
"Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD!"  (Psalm 25:6-7)

TODAY'S WORD
, I think most of us find it increasingly difficult to ask for help as we get older. It's cute for a three-year-old to need help with his messes, but it's not so cute for us adults to admit that we can't clean up after ourselves. So we end up stumbling through life, desperate for help but too afraid or embarrassed to admit it.

I think one of the main reasons we have such a difficult time admitting our need for mercy is because we're too quick with the fast-forward button! We just don't want to acknowledge that we're sinful. I certainly don't like thinking about the ugly places in my heart and life. I'd much rather race past the bad parts and goggle at the good parts!

Fast-forwarding through the bad parts and ignoring messes is an art form we've perfected by the time we get our braces off! Cultural expectations and traditions form a sort of spiritual charm school where all students must look good on the outside and deny or disguise their need for help. It's socially unacceptable-tacky even-to be a sinner, and desperation is something that well-mannered people simply refuse to acknowledge.

Thank goodness our Savior is full of the mercy we're so desperate for! Our gracious heavenly Father entreats us to confess our mess. And to show us that its OK to let down our pretenses, His Word is full of stories of unlikely people becoming heroes-a stuttering ex-con who leads God's people out of slavery; an unethical, little, "IRS agent" who becomes a friend of Jesus; a sleazy whose testimony triggers a revival in her hometown. If you're embarrassed by your past, you're in good company!

So be encouraged. When we humble ourselves, quit fast-forwarding past the bad parts, and admit that we're lost without Him, we become His unlikely children. Desperate, imperfect people...completely adored, accepted and beloved by a perfect God.

A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY

Heavenly Father, as I have grown up I have tried to become more independent in all areas of my life. Help me to see that dependence on You is exactly where I need to be. Show me areas I need to humble myself and ask for help. Amen.

, my your life be full of His blessings.
